Home Education and the Corona Virus

Home Education and the Corona Virus

Parents who have children off school during this crisis have our sympathy. We have offered a list of tried and tested resources on our public page which might be useful for them to support their children’s learning while schools are closed. We will be posting daily Treats for the Lockdown too on the same page.

But don’t try to do it all. Children learn all the time and they will get a great deal out of reading, playing and talking with you- whatever age they are. Even if you have work sent home from school you don’t have to try and recreate the school experience at home, there will still be plenty of time to explore together informally.  As much as possible, try to make this a happy memory for them.

The issues being faced by all families at this time due to the imposed isolation are not typical of home education and home educating families will also need to adapt. Despite the ‘home’ in ‘home education’ we are not used to being cooped up. Most of us usually have very full schedules and enjoy it, and like schooling families we are having to find other ways to meet our needs until this passes.

This Facebook group has been set up by UK Home Educators to offer support and resources for School Closures.
